SILANG, PHILIPPINES (August 25, 2025) – Development Communication students from the Adventist University of the Philippines (AUP) visited the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) to gain first-hand experience in sustainable agriculture, food security, and community-based development.

Organized by IIRR’s YEN Center and Food Security and Nutrition (FSN) team, the visit included presentations on IIRR’s core thematic areas and innovative garden niches, highlighting their relevance to both urban and rural development. Students participated in a guided tour of the Bio-Intensive Garden (BIG), learning sustainable management practices and practical techniques that communities can replicate to enhance nutrition and food security.

Students expressed appreciation for the biodiversity maintained in the garden and the organization’s practical, community-centered approach. Following the visit, AUP signaled interest in future collaborations, including a potential Memorandum of Understanding to support joint activities, academic partnerships, and knowledge exchange.
