IVISAN, PANAY, Philippines (October 2025) – Oyster and green mussel growers in Ivisan have gained practical skills in sustainable aquaculture and learned strategies to manage climate-related challenges, helping them sustain their livelihoods and strengthen collaboration within their communities.

A three-day Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) assessment under the AQUADAPT Project documented vulnerabilities, adaptive practices, and gender-specific challenges through interviews with beneficiaries and local officials and a focus group discussion with 19 participants from five associations. Discussions focused on changes over the past five years, particularly in response to climate change, sea level rise, and other environmental risks.

Participants highlighted the value of hands-on exercises, trainings, and learning visits, which allowed them to apply new aquaculture techniques, build networks, and share knowledge with peers.

Moving forward, insights from the assessment will guide future project interventions, capacity-building activities, and support mechanisms, enabling small-scale aquaculture practitioners in Ivisan to increase productivity, adapt to environmental challenges, and foster resilient local food systems.
