QUEZON CITY, Philippines (August 5, 2025) – Forty-one urban farmers in Quezon City are now equipped to boost sustainable food systems and climate-resilient urban agriculture after completing a Perennial Vegetable Production Training.

Conducted by the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) and the International Potato Center, in partnership with the Quezon City LGU and the Institute of Plant Breeding–Los Baños, the training provided hands-on skills to grow and manage perennial vegetables in urban gardens.

Participants learned sustainable nursery design, propagation techniques including grafting and budding, integrated pest and disease management, and effective soil and water management. Practical exercises allowed farmers to apply these techniques immediately, strengthening their capacity to establish and manage community nurseries.

By the end of the training, farmers were ready to implement practical, climate-smart solutions that enhance urban agriculture, improve local food security, and promote sustainable nutrition in their communities.
