2023 SUN Joint Assessment Workshop Reports Progress, Pushes for Stronger Nutrition Commitments

CEBU CITY, Philippines (23–24 January 2024) — National government agencies, civil society organizations, development partners, and SUN Networks gathered in Cebu for the 2023 Philippine Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Joint Assessment Workshop to align efforts in advancing the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023–2028.
The two-day workshop served as a platform for reviewing implementation progress, sharing accomplishments, and updating the national investment plan. Participants assessed their commitments to the five SUN priority areas, reaffirming their collective goal to eliminate all forms of malnutrition in the country.
Key priorities discussed included the full implementation and localization of the PPAN 2023–2028, scaling up LGU-led nutrition interventions, strengthening accountability frameworks, expanding SUN partnerships, and generating resources for continued SUN activities.

Representatives from various SUN networks signed the official SUN Commitment Wall, solidifying their support for nutrition goals at all levels.
Civil society organizations, including the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR), presented accomplishments in line with their commitments and participated in discussions to refine strategies and mobilize investment support across priority provinces.
The workshop concluded with renewed collaboration and progress noted in both process and results, ensuring that nutrition remains a key national agenda in line with global SUN Movement objectives.
